How to buy

With more than 35 years of auction experience in the Arts and rare Books department, VERGOS Auctions is the oldest and largest auction House in Greece. The personalized level of services and the technical expertise available to our clients, VERGOS Auctions guarantees the safety and reliability in all stages of the auction process, from the initial evaluation to the delivery to the new owner.

You can participate by:

  • Attending an auction at the time/date and location specified
  • Written/Proxy bid
  • Phone participation
  • Online live bidding via our website

In any case, to participate you will have to accept the terms and conditions of the auction.

If you have chosen to attend an auction, we suggest that you be at the venue at least one hour before the start of the auction, so that with the help of our staff you can register and receive your paddle number. During the auction you use your paddle number on the items you want to bid. The bid increments are predetermined, and the amounts increase by about 10%. Unless there is a higher bid than yours, the item now belongs to you.

All you have to do is create an account on our website. To create your account, we will need to verify your:

- email
- mobile phone
- ID

Then, after processing the above information and activating your account, you can bid online live in any future auction of our Auction House.

The online bidding in an auction presupposes the acceptance of its terms and conditions.

After filling in the form of the written/proxy bid with the items that interest you as well as the maximum amount that you wish to offer, the auctioneer will work on your behalf at the time of the auction and place bids for you without exceeding your maximum offer.

You can submit a written/proxy offer through our website or send the form via email at least 1 day before the auction.

If you have chosen to participate in an auction by phone, one of our representatives will call you at the time of the auction just before the item you are interested in. He/She will keep you informed of what is happening and how the auction is evolving, and you will have the opportunity to bid for the item that interests you.

All you need to do is fill out the phone participation form stating which items interest you and the phone number you prefer us to call you.

We suggest that you contact us at least 1 day before the auction in order to secure a phone line for you. It is also recommended to declare an alternative phone number to ensure our communication.

Of course they can as long as he lets us know in time both his own information and yours.
We encourage you to examine the items that interest you before the auction. You can do so on the dates that we have planned for this purpose before each auction. If you are not able to visit us, you can request further detailed photos as well as a condition report.
Of course you can by either attending the auction or watching it through our website, regardless of your intention to participate.

Through our website you can see all the items that make up the respective auction. You can also browse its online catalogue. Finally, you can subscribe our Newsletter to be the first to know about the auctions and their content.

The price from which item starts is the lowest price of the estimate which you can find in the description of an item.

For example, if the estimate price is € 2.000-3.000, then the starting price will be € 2.000.

An item can sometimes start at a higher price only if there are written/proxy bids.

The total amount consists of the hammer price plus the House’s commission of 18%, artist's resale right (if applicable) and VAT 24% on the commission and artist's resale right.

In some paintings and sculptures, the buyer will have to pay for the artist’s copyright.

When the artist of the work is alive or has passed in the last 70 years, then 5% is added to the hammer price if it is below € 50,000, 3% if the hammer price is € 50,000.01 to 200,000, 1% for € 200,000.01 to 350,000, 0,5% for € 350,000.01 to 500,000 and 0,25% if the price is above € 500,000. In any case, the total amount will not exceed € 12,500.

You will have to pay within 10 days after the auction with one of the following ways:

  • Wire transfer / e-banking
  • Cashier’s check
  • Cash

You can pick your item up directly from our offices or have them sent to your address within 30 days after the auction.

In case you wish the item to be sent to you, we will suggest specialized art transport companies and you will choose which of them meets your criteria and then you plan your delivery directly with them.
